Phlebotomists are an important part of any laboratory setting. Oftentimes, they are the only member of the laboratory team that makes contact with a patient.
Typically, phlebotomy technicians are responsible for:
Explaining procedures to patients
Drawing blood specimens
Applying appropriate pressure or bandages after blood is drawn
Processing specimens for testing
Updating patient records
Preparing stains and reagents
Collecting various laboratory specimens
Cleaning and sterilizing equipment
Sending blood, urine and fecal samples to the lab for testing
Phlebotomy technicians must like challenge and responsibility. They must also be accurate, work well under pressure and communicate effectively. Because they work directly with patients, they must notice and relay any important information gained during interactions to doctors, nurses and laboratory professionals.
Phlebotomists must also be able to utilize fine motor skills by working with small objects and having steady hands.
Phlebotomy technicians work in hospitals, laboratories, physician’s offices, donation facilities and other health care settings where blood is taken and analyzed. Some technicians even travel to patients who are homebound.
Much work time is spent standing and walking. They must be comfortable both in the clinical laboratory setting, as well as interacting with patients who are often stressed by the procedure.
At Matrix Medical Training Center, we strive to provide a setting and atmosphere of professionalism and confidence in each student. Our program makes each student eligible for certification through the National Healthcareer Association – offering quality certification and continuing education services which have gained recognition and meet the mark of approval.
The Phlebotomy Technician program consists of 80 clock-hours of comprehensive classroom and hands-on training – 60 hours classroom and 20 hours of hands-on practicum time. Phlebotomy Technicians draw blood from patients or donors in hospitals, blood banks, outpatient drawing facilities, physician’s offices, or similar facilities for analysis or other medical purposes.
Completion of this program makes each student eligible to challenge the National HealthCareer Association certification exam in Phlebotomy. This agency is a nationally recognized certification program. To sit for the CPT exam, students must pay an additional $115 at the time of exam registration (after course completion) through the NHA. Students will be given a candidate handbook for the registration and exam upon course completion and will pay for and schedule this service after that time.
The total course cost for the Phlebotomy Technician course includes a textbook, supplemental learning tools, all equipment required to complete the hands-on course work and CPR certification for healthcare providers (BLS).
TOTAL TUITION FOR THE PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN COURSE = $995
